The international exhibition "Railway Model – 2026" under the auspices of the All-Russian Society of Railway Enthusiasts was held for the first time at the Russian Railway Museum from April 11 to 19, 2026. The exhibition was visited by more than 4,000 people.

A railway model of 110 modules was deployed at the Railway Crossing installation in the museum's "H" block. In 2026, 175 modelers from different cities of Russia, as well as permanent foreign participants, participated in the exhibition. More than 500 unique author's models were presented.

"Holding the exhibition in our museum allowed us to create a voluminous and vivid impression: the guests saw the miniatures from a bird's-eye view and could immediately compare them with the originals, real locomotives and wagons in our exposition. We were glad to be a part of a real celebration of railway lovers," said Vladimir Odintsov, Director of the Russian Railway Museum.

Within the framework of the exhibition, lectures were held on the art of railway modeling and the preservation of historical rolling stock of Russian railways. The events were attended by 160 people. Alexander Litvinov became the winner of the Title Award in 2026. The exhibition was complemented by the works of pupils of the children's technoparks "Kvantorium", children's railway circles and finalists of the II City competition "Open Steam locomotive competitions. Renaissance two centuries later", organized by the Academy of Technical Creativity and Digital Technologies.

Interesting facts:

  • The main theme of the 2026 exhibition was the 175th anniversary of the St. Petersburg-Moscow railway. The models of rolling stock that were used on this highway were presented: for example, the electric locomotive ChS200, which worked with the Aurora train, the high-speed train ER200, and the historical wagons of the Krasnaya Strela, painted blue.
  • For the first time in the history of railway modeling, two different types of modules were combined into a single layout by a special module: the Nevsky Module (St. Petersburg) and the Locotrans-MOSmodule (Moscow – Rostov).
  • Records have been set: a train with 34 freight cars with an M62 diesel locomotive (one section) and 22 passenger cars with a two-section CS200 traction was carried out on the model.
  • The length of the modular layout, when converted into real kilometers, is equal to the length of the Malaya Oktyabrskaya Railway.
  • During one exhibition day, 90 pairs of freight and passenger trains on the H0 scale passed on the layout according to the schedule.

The partners of the Railway Model 2026 exhibition are Transmashholding, a manufacturer of rolling stock for railway and urban rail transport, and Pacific88, a manufacturer of paints for models.
