Metallurgical Orchestra Will Perform its Program “Trunk Line. Form of Sound” in the Russian Railway Museum

“Trunk Line. Form of Sound” performance will take place at the Russian Railway Museum on November 1.

Composer Pyotr Aidu and artist Vadim Kondakov created a sound sculpture - a multi-percussion instrument consisting of 90 metal parts that are identical in weight but different in shape specially for the event which ends the program of the 15th Contemporary Art in a Traditional Museum festival. The material for the sculpture was simple metal rolling elements: sheets of various thicknesses, pipes, profiles and fittings which were given an art form.

An instrument for musical experiment will be installed among the cars in the large hall of the Russian Railway Museum

The performance will be accompanied by plastic improvisation by Cannon Dance dancing house.

Idea of an industrial Metallurgical orchestra appeared in 1923 as one of the experiments of the constructivism era.

Composer Pyotr Aidu is reviving experience of the “noise” music enthusiasts from the beginning of the XX century. In the museum with exhibits made from metal he is experimenting with that material.
