The Oldest Post Office Car Became Available for Visiting

/ 2

The Russian Railway Museum will tell how the sending and sorting of letters was arranged more than 100 years ago.

After the restoration, a four-axle post office car, built in 1902 by the Russian-Baltic Carriage Works in Riga, is opened for visit. This is the oldest post office car, remained in Russia.

Restoration of the car began several years ago and, as a result of the scrupulous work of specialists, its interior was completely restored.

There are two luggage storage rooms inside the car along with a service room for parsing correspondence, a vestibule and a restroom. The Museum staff has created an exposition on the history of postal transportation by rail and has organized visitors’ access inside the baggage storerooms.
