Halls No. 5 and 6 are dedicated to the development of rail transport since ancient times. You can visit these halls with a separate ticket, as part of a tour group, by purchasing a quest card or renting a museum audio guide, as well as by downloading the mobile application of the Russian Railway museum.

In Hall No. 5, models of the first locomotives, operating models of steam engines by Heron of Alexandria (1st century A.D.), Ivan Polzunov and James Watt, as well as a model of the first Cherepanov steam locomotive are presented. Here you can see a multimedia model of the first Tsarskoye Selo railway in the Russian Empire, unique in technical and artistic terms, as well as items from the funds related to it.

Hall No. 6 is dedicated to the period of the beginning of the rapid development of railway transport in Russia. There is a whole complex of interactive multimedia installations that complement the objects from the museum's collection. Among the exhibits: tools, drawings, documents and items from the interior of the wagons. Here you can see the interactive multimedia installation "Anatomy of a steam locomotive of the Sch series" and launch the installation "Boiler of Inventions". Two interactive setting scenes are presented: "The Cabinet of the Minister" and "The Telegraphist". In the Minister's Office, you can study documents by interacting with the touch desk of the Minister of Railways, Prince Khilkov. At the table with the "Telegraphist" installation, you can try to type a text using a telegraphic key. Here you can also compare how the compartments of a Class I carriage and a class IV carriage looked.
